This is one of my favorite scenes from Repo Man, a film that I've watched entirely too many times. Enjoy.

He's probably right about more driving = less intelligence. Not SO sure about the flying saucer time machines taking people from the future of the past to the past of the future.

Greg- It's a great movie. One thing I just noticed the last time I watched it- when they're in the hospital, all of the announcements on the PA system are references to W.S.Burroughs books 'Dr. Benway to surgery.' 'Mr. Lee, please put down that scalpel.' etc.

Holly- It does explain why I've been thinking 'plate of shrimp' for the last two months straight.

Also, for the record, that's the title from You Tube. I haven't changed it, although 'wierdness' bugs me.

I wish I could believe that it is because people are such die hard fans of the standard i before e orthography, but empirical evidence points to people just not knowing how to spell.

Admittedly, I miss all sorts of words. I think part of the problem is that English doesn't make a lot of sense. The rules seem arbitrary. 'I before E, except after C, and in words that sound like A, such as neighbor and weigh, and also the word 'weird', which is weirdly-spelled, and pretty much whenever the fuck we want to spell it E before I. I definitely have great sympathy for people trying to learn the language.

One of the saving graces of German is the nearly bijective correspondence between spelling and pronunciation. This, of course, assumes you're not speaking in some kind of impenetrable Styrian dialect (I'm looking at YOU Graz)- It is far more regular than English. Is it a fair trade for declensions?

French is a very rational and consistent language. The drawback is that trying to speak French can kill you.
