Quote for Today

"The trouble with paternalists is that they want to make impossibly profound changes, and they choose impossibly superficial means for doing so."

Jane Jacobs is one of my heroes. Heroines. Role models.

I think all three work well. Jacobs is great. I've been re-reading her books because someone told me they thought academics had forgotten about her. Also, I'm thinking about designing an urban history course. Absolutely- she is recommended reading.

There were a couple of urban history courses at UNM that I wanted to take, but ran out of time/money/proximity. I'm pretty sure Death/Life is one of their texts.

Yeah, I think it's still pretty widely-read. When they said it wasn't read in universities, I sort of thought, no that can't be right.
