Formatting the new site.

Okay, so I'm teaching myself HTML... Now, I want to know if this layout works well. That is, does it look like a journal, or should the sections have their own Horizontal columns instead of Vertical ones as they do now? Do you see what I mean? Here is an example of Horizontal columns. Which one looks more like a journal, is easier to read, etc.?

I think the layout also depends on how often you update various parts. You gave movies their own column, but I'm not sure how often you update that. For a regular newspaper, a column layout makes sense because each section is updated daily.

Ah, okay. That makes sense. I'll take a look at more web journals.

I liked the horizontal arrangement better. The first one has that too-much-stuff feeling about it. Visually, the availability of blank space is the thing that makes it possible to read the rest of it. Also, it strikes me as more magazine-ish. The first one hits me as more to-do-list-ish.

Experiment a little bit with font size too, then you'll get a little bit of a better idea what would work best. For now, I tend to favor the horizontal.

Yeah, I see what everybody's saying. With the horizontal, I can update it bi-weekly, and then everyone can read it like it was a menu and decide what they want to read further. This is how magazines work in general.

I'm still pretty bad with HTML, so I'll probably just modify someone else's template though. But I just want to get away from the blog look. Also, I think having sort of a table of contents will make it a lot easier to read this stuff and whatever else I link to.

Thanks everybody.
