Glimpse into the swinging 60s

Also a bit glam and kinky, Square America has an intriguing series of found photos from a late 60s "biracial, bisexual bacchanal". You'll wish you were there, if only to check out the clothes!

In general, Square America, which collects old found photos from the late 40s through the 70s, is the most diverting and fascinating site I've seen in a while. I recommend it, even though you'll lose hours flipping through it.

Makes me wonder how many people in their 60s were .. into .. that kind of thing back when. That kindly old guy running the hardware store? The nice woman who runs the run-away shelter? The bitter sour grump of a supervisor out in manufacturing?

I was at a New Year's Party once - some people from church, neighborhood friends. Near midnight the nice lady from the alter guild leaned over and boozily whispered:

"You know, Dick (her deceased husband) and I did acid in the 60s. We were leading the Youth Group and wanted to see what all the fuss was about."

Knock me over with a feather: Dick was Mr. WW II Vet and Bomber Pilot and Gwen was your stereotypical Episcopalian Lady. You never know ..

Yeah, my grandmother wanted to try pot at one point, and my father got her some from a guy at his work. Ultimately, she forgot all about it, until she was in line at the airport and realized that she still had a bag of marijuana in her purse. She ran to the bathroom and flushed it down the toilet, so I guess she never did end up smoking it. Probably for the best.

Looks like stills from a lost Cassavetes film. Nice find.
